Environmental Education

The D20 education program focuses on raising awareness of water pollution. We target cleaning up pollution on our beaches, in our streets, and throughout our waterways. Our goal is to help citizens become more aware of their choices and to take small actions that collectively have a large impact on reducing pollution in our world. We engage the public through community service opportunities, informative presentations, and empowering a local network of active volunteers. ‍Public Cleanups

Local virtual cleanups hosted on a weekly basis inspired by D2O to reduce litter in our rivers, streets, and beaches. A typical 2-hour cleanup removes hundreds of pounds of litter! We bring together neighborhoods and families, team with local vendors, and work with organizations & businesses to host cleanups throughout Orange County.

Recycle Your Butts

The Recycle Your Butts Program aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact of cigarette butt litter on our streets, beaches, in our rivers and oceans. Our goal is to cease cigarette butt litter all throughout Orange County and California. Cigarette butts account for approximately 50% of all items collected during our street cleanups. Uneducated smokers end up littering on our streets and sidewalks, that eventually find their way down our storm drains, and flow right into our waterways and eventually into the ocean. Our Recycle Your Butts Receptacles are aimed at educating smokers and getting millions of Butts off the streets at the same time.

 School and Corporate Cleanups

D2O partners with schools and business to host a hands-on private beach or street cleanup. Schools and businesses choose D20 to host a custom cleanup day in Orange County, taking the ease out of obtaining permits, insurance, and supplies. D2O provides educational materials and volunteer hours.

 Monthly Virtual Cleanups

Socially distanced cleanups held nationwide on the 1^st Saturday of every month. These virtual cleanups during the pandemic are what inspired us to create our newest initiative, It Takes A Village Cleanups! Read more here‍

Movie Screenings 

Surf Series films such as the Endless Summer, Bustin’ Down the Door, and Second Thoughts bring the community together to fundraise, raise awareness, educate and celebrate our love for surf.

Reduce-Reuse-Recycle Surf Off

The “RRR Surf Off” is a one-day educational surf contest, bringing awareness to beginner and advanced surfers alike. The “RRR Surf Off” encourages competitors to learn about ongoing issues litter in our local city streets and beaches creates and pollution in our oceans. It focuses on bringing family, friends, and the community together. Event organizers make sure this event is environmentally friendly as possible, using eco-friendly propane generators for power, and offering organic Matunas Surf Wax to contestants. Trophies for the winners are made from recycled trash and other reused materials. The surf event includes educational information booths, and eco-minded groups including 5 Gyres, the Sierra Club, Bolsa Chica Land Trust, OC Earth Stewards and Heirs to our Oceans who send representatives to answer questions and provide information.
